The acclaimed actress is organizing a screening in US for the real-life inspiration of Hichki, Brad Cohen – the popular motivational speaker and his students.
Rani Mukerji has given her all to play the role of a teacher living with Tourette syndrome in her forthcoming film, Hichki. The Yash Raj production has been inspired by the extraordinary real-life story of Brad Cohen, a teacher and very popular motivational speaker, who has turned his Tourette syndrome to an advantage in his life. Globally celebrated for his unique achievement, Rani plans to salute Brad with a special screening for him and his students.
“Brad’s life story is now a Bollywood movie and of course he is thrilled to see his journey releasing in India! Rani has read Brad Cohen’s book Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had and has researched the story of his life thoroughly for authentic portrayal of her character. Rani wants Brad and his students to watch the film and she will be organizing a special screening for Cohen and his students. Brad is well aware of Rani’s stellar body of work as an actor and that makes the film screening more special as he knows Rani has given it her all to bring his story to life,” adds Siddharth P Malhotra
Rani plays the character of Naina Mathur who has a nervous system disorder, Tourette Syndrome that forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds. Hichki focusses on turning disadvantages into opportunities and staring down at challenges that life throws at one and ultimately winning over them. It is also a subtle reminder about discrimination that exists in our society and has become a part of our daily lives. It highlights this through the story of Naina, who faces discrimination from our society that firmly believes she cannot be a teacher because of her disorder.
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma, the movie is set to touch the hearts of audiences when it releases on March 23
