Azaan Sami Khan has returned with a new single Tu, accompanied by a music video released on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr. The new track, which is a follow-up to his first single Main Tera, features actress Mahira Khan, as depicted by teasers shared earlier.

The video explores the many stages of falling in love with someone, and eventually realising it is a consuming relationship. All these stages, typically infatuation, obsession, struggles, dejection, etc, have been demonstrated by Azaan and Mahira with tonnes of special effects adding a certain element of quirk and uniqueness to the whole music video. Moreover, the video is a step in a different direction for Azaan, as compared to his first single Main Tera, where he chose to keep things simple.

Lyrically, the song delves into Azaan’s experience with consuming relationships. “I wrote Tu when I wasn’t in the best headspace. It’s about the dilemma that comes with liking somebody you know isn’t sincere with you but you’re still going with the flow. It’s about being aware of being in a bad relationship, but you like the person so much, you’re like ‘Screw it’,” he said.

Directed by Hassan Dawar, the video features visual effects by The KROOT, an animation studio that has previously worked with international artists like Billie EilishColdplay, and Travis Scott. On choosing Mahira Khan for the music video, Azaan shared: “We wanted it to be every fanboy’s dream. So, we thought about who that ultimate woman in the subcontinent is, one who everyone has crushed on at some point in their lives. And that’s when Mahira jee came to mind. She liked the song, and was kind enough to star in it.”

Produced by Meghdeep BoseTu is released under the banner of HUM Music and is now out on all streaming platforms. Tu is the second single from Azaan’s debut album Main Tera, which includes 9 brand new songs, namely Maahiya, Dholna, Mein Tera, Jaadugari, Aashiqui, Ik Lamha, Meri Sajna Re feat. Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali KhanZama, and Tu, along with a Bonus side having live versions and a remix.
