After years of waiting, Anurag Kashyap’s long-delayed debut film ‘Paanch’ is finally set to hit theatres. Made in 2003, but kept from release due to objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the film is now scheduled for a theatrical release within the next six months. Although the film’s original negatives may have suffered some degradation after being shelved for over 20 years, efforts are underway to restore them. ‘Paanch’, inspired by the infamous Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders in Pune from 1976-1977, stars Kay Kay Menon in the lead role, with a supporting cast that includes Aditya Srivastava, Vijay Maurya, Joy Fernandes, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vijay Raaz and Abhinav Kashyap. While ‘Paanch’ was Anurag Kashyap’s first attempt at filmmaking, he later went on to direct a series of landmark films such as ‘Black Friday’, ‘Dev.D’, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ saga and ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’. His latest project, ‘Kennedy’, starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone continues his bold cinematic journey.
