Through a friend associated with an NGO in the South, Athiya found out about Tambaram (a village near Chennai) facing water crisis. The gorgeous actress’s mother, who is known for showing active support for charitable causes, paired up with her and both started work in the direction of being able to provide clean water to the villagers of Tambaram.
Aware of the villagers’ plight Athiya informs, “I got to know about it via my friend who works with a different NGO in the south. I asked my team to get in touch with someone and managed to work this out. For most of us, it’s hard to imagine being thirsty and not being able to have water available. But one in ten people around the world don’t have that luxury. In many developing countries, women and girls have to walk long hours every day just to collect water for their families. And every day about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water.”
The mother-daughter duo are constantly at work to create awareness of the issue within their social circle. They have donated money and have a dedicated team to mind the work happening for causes.
Adds Athiya, “My mother is the driving force for this. She is extremely passionate about causes like this and will make time to work for them.”
