Karan Johar who is a veteran in Bollywood with a career spanning over two decades has been recognized for championing diverse movie projects. In a recent conversation with senior journalist Faye D’Souza, he delved into the challenges faced by the industry, emphasizing how Bollywood often becomes a target for unexpected controversies. Discussing measures taken by his production house, Johar highlighted the practice of self-censorship to pre-empt legal entanglements such as FIRs and court cases. “We have a legal department in every organization now,” he explained, stressing the importance of pre-screening scripts to avoid unnecessary legal battles. “There is a fear of getting into any kind of legality. We don’t want court cases, we don’t want FIRs filed against us, so that we are protected. Every script that is made, whether it is Dharma Productions or our digital arm Dharmatic Entertainment, goes through a legal censorship internally then we go ahead and make that film. It’s not that we are afraid, we just don’t want the stress and pressure of fighting court cases and putting your energy in something that you can do very well without.” said Johar.  Known for his candid insights, he also emphasized that while not driven by fear, the focus is on channelling creative energies without the distraction of legal disputes. His upcoming production, ‘Bad Newz’, features an interesting cast including Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, Ammy Virk in lead roles.
