The makers of ‘Sam Bahadur’ which include director Meghna Gulzar and producer Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Movies, released the film’s trailer today. ‘Sam Bahadur’ stars Vicky Kaushal playing the title role of India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Accompanying Vicky are Fatima Sana Shaikh reprising the role of India’s then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sanya Malhotra as Sam’s wife Siloo Manekshaw. Just when the teaser was recently released, Vicky had said, “The journey of Sam started with ‘Raazi’ (2018) for me. We were shooting in Patiala and were holed up in a hotel when Meghna first mentioned that she is thinking of this film next. I had heard about him but didn’t know what he looked like. While talking to her, I discreetly searched for his image and I thought to myself, ‘He’s so handsome. I won’t get this role!’ In May 2019, I met her when she gave me the script and asked me to go through it. I was having a long flight that night and read the script on board. I was waiting for those 15 hours to get over so I could call her up and say, ‘I am doing this, please don’t look elsewhere’ (laughs)! We have tried to imbibe the spirit of the man through this film.” Just like the man himself, the makers too stuck to the strict schedule of dates right from the beginning till the release on 1st December 2023.
