Veteran actress Shashikala, known for films like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Chhoti Bahu’, ‘Hariyali Aur Rasta’ and ‘Junglee’ among others, passed away on Sunday, April 4th. She was 88. Screenwriter Kiran Kotrial broke the news of her demise even before the family confirmed the incident. With that, Bollywood celebrities paid their tributes to the yesteryear actress. Priyanka Chopra, who worked with her in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, said, “An actor par excellence, one of the greats of the golden era… she leaves behind an indelible mark on cinema. Honoured to have had the opportunity to work with her.” She was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in the year 2007. Though Shashikala kept working till the mid of 2000s, she was more famous for her films in 1950s and 1960s. Some of her work include, ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, ‘Himalay Ki God Mein’, ‘Anupama’ and more recently ‘Baadshah’ and ‘Jhankaar Beats’.
