Vidhu Vinod Chopra has proved himself as a successful filmmaker, thanks to his hit projects at the box office. He has now ventured into making a Hollywood flick with ‘Broken Horses’ (releasing this month), aspiring for an Oscar award. Chopra revealed his initial tryst with the prestigious honour, “I was very young when I was nominated for an Oscar, in 1979. In those days, there was not much of press for Oscar nominations, like the way it is these days. But at that time when I went there, I didn’t have much money. Government of India had given me 20 dollars a day and I didn’t have clothes to wear. Since we could only wear a tuxedo or national dress, I wore my night suit of ‘kurta-pyjama’ and attended the Oscars.” For the newbies, Chopra had made a documentary titled ‘An Encounter With Faces’ in 1978, which was nominated in the Documentary Short Subject category at the award function.
